Changing requirements for the classification are subject to the introduction of new diagnostic methods and therapeutic strategies. This work is focused on a recent proposal of revisions in ihe international system for staging lung cancer presented by Clifton P. Mountain (Chest, 111, 1997,1710-17) and summarizes comments on the new classification.
