Summary:  Metastases of bronchial carcinoma are the most frequently occurring intracranial metastases. The present paper deals with statistical analysis of material from the Neurosurgical Clinic in Košice, Slovakia. There were 41 pts hospitalized during a 15-year period with metastatic bronchial carcinoma. This was 33.39% of all patients with intracranial metastasis. 82.92% were men and 17.08% woman. The mean age was 52.29 years. Anaplastic small-cell carcinoma was most frequently observed. Metastasis in the vertebrobasilar basin occured in 10 patients. Multiple metastases occur in 17.07%. Duration of symptoms from their first manifestation to surgery was 1,63 months. Mean survival (3-35 months) data were gained from only 14 patients, and operative mortality (8.57%) is probably due to a low Kamofsky score at admission (46.05 points) Despite the unfavourable long-term prognosis, correctly indicated palliative therapy ensures prolongation of life span and improvement in the quality of life.
