Abstract: The quality of life is recognised at present as one of the basic parameters bringing information on both the seriousness of disease and thr success ofthe medical intervention. Quality of life, or more exactly health-related quality of life, is influenced by great member of reversal of the factors. Published studies have brought unambiguous evidence that anorexia and weight loss are to be counted among these factors. Megestrol acetate is one of the instruments enabling to reverse the unfavourable process of cachectization. However, the overview of the literature discussed here shows that the results of scanty studies performed till now fail to give clear information whether the improving of a patient’s body weight and appetite also improves his quality of life. Obviously, this problem needs further and more detailed evaluation.
