Summary: Limited small cell lung cancer (LSCLC) has – despite the use of modern aggressive therapy, which is early concurrent twice-daily chemoradiotherapy – 5-year survival only about 25 % and still low percentage of local control (about 64 %). This is the reason that – besides stage I where surgery is standard treatment – the question of surgical treatment of more advanced stages (mainly IIIA) is still open, because surgery could increase local control and possibly survival of these patients. The article demonstrates current opinion of the use of surgery in the treatment of LSCLC and also our own experience with 8 operated patients.
