Klin Onkol 2002; 15(5): 170-175.

Summary: Even at present progression stages of cervical carcinoma outnumber the diagnosed cases of the disease. In these cases, therapeutical results are dissatisfactory despite the progress in the field of radiotherapy. In effort to achieve an improvement, chemotherapy has been included into chemotherapeutical protocols of cervical carcinoma. A series of studies have been performed, testing the effectiveness of the chemotherapy applied in both adjuvant and neoadjuvant way. Their results have not provided an essential change as far as the improvement of the observed parameters is concerned. The concomitant application is being considered the most efficient. The present therapeutical standard for progression tumor processes is a weekly application of cis DDP. Paclitaxel ranks among the most prospective substances with a radio enhancing efect. The effectiveness of its application has been tested in clinical studies of tumors of CNS, head and neck, lungs and rectum. At present, several studies of I/II phases, testing the tolerance and toxicity of the applied paclitaxel are being performed under the auspices of NCI.
