Total knee replacement for primary chondrosarcoma of the distal femur

Summary:
Backgrounds: Chondrosarcoma is the second most frequent solid malignant bone tumor. The surgical treatment remains the sole method of the therapy because of clinical and pathological characteristics and no effect of chemotherapy or actinotherapy.
Design: Authors present a case report of primary chondrosarcoma of the distal femur treated by tumor resection and replacement by custom made total knee arthroplasty. This endoprosthesis was made individually for the patient observed for 10 years after the operation. Methods and Results: Authors present clinical, radiological and functional results and evaluate causes of long survival of the total knee arthroplasty in the active patient.
Conclusions: Custom made total knee arthroplasty gives the chance to many patients with active style of their live and bring them back to their world.
