Not long ago the chemotherapy of gastrointestinal tumors was represented only by various schedules of fluorouracil. Now the spectrum of cytostatic drugs has been broaden for gastric cancer and other gastrointestinal malignancies, except colorectal carcinoma. Various modifications of the fluorouracil chemotherapy, especially the combination with high-dose leucovorin, seem to be promising. This broader spectrum of chemotherapeutic options increases the interest of clinical oncologists in combined treatment of gastrointestinal tumors.
