Summary:

Psychological alteration is common conseqance of mastectomized patients with breast cancer of stage I and II. Various factors influencing the patient adaptation to mastectomy are analyzed on the basis of experience of the specialized oncological institute. However, the properly indicated less radical procedures can help to eliminate psychological trauma with the similar curative effect. The aim of paper is to stress the necessity of taking into account the psychological aspects in the individualized therapeutic decisions.
