Klin Onkol 1990; 3(4): 111-115.

Summary:

33 patients were treated with irradiation alone for localized prostate cancer at department of radiotherapy RICEO between 1986—1989. There were 15 patients in stage B, 18 in stage C. All patients were treated with X-ray beam 20 MeV and received 66 to 72 Gy to the prostate. Effect of radiotherapy was measured by means of repeated CT of prostate volume and by means of uroflowmetry. We have found a statistically significant tumor regression from the 6th month after radiotherapy. The changes in the values of uroflowmetry were insignificant. Treatment complications were minimal. These results confirm, that external beam irradiation is a basic treatment modality for localized prostate cancer.
