Hypoxyradiotherapy II — the tolerance of hypoxic gas mixture inhalations containing 8 % of oxygen

Klin Onkol 1990; 3(5): 140-145.

Summary:

The study evaluates the human organism tolerance of acute hypoxia induced by five minute inhalation of hypoxic gas mixture containing 8 % of oxygen and 92 % of nitrogen as a part of a hypoxiradlotherapy procedure. Breathing of thet hypoxic mixture led to reduction of arterial blood oxygen pressure from normal values of 10.9 ± 1.6 kPa to 4.1 ± 1.9 kPa, which seems to be optimal fo the selective radioprotection of normal tissues, during hypoxiradiotherapy. The inhalation of hypoxic mixture was fairly tolerated in all patients having normal cardiorespiratory functions and no pathological findings could be reported on electrocardiography, blood pressure, pulse rate or acldobasic balance.
