Klin Onkol 1992; 5(2): 47-49.

Causes of death among the group of 4803 uranium miners with respect to extrapulmonary malignant neoplasms were analysed. The observed number of deaths from extrapulmonary malignancies during the 18 year period 1968—1985 from the exposure ending was significantly lower than expected one according to the data on causes of death among Czech men. This fact may be caused by the so called healthy worker effect, or by the increased mortality from lung cancers at lower age than it is usual among non-exposed male population. The estimation of the incidence of extrapulmonary malignancies among this group is not conflicting with the opinion that the occurence of extrapulmonary tumors among uranium miners is not higher than that among non-exposed male population.
