Breast carcinoma in the phylid tumor

Klin Onkol 1992; 5(5): 149-153.

Authors describe two female patients, in whom breast carcinoma developed within a phylloid tumor. The phylloid tumor in the first patient was extraordinarily extensive (35 by 40 by 40 cm, weighing 9 kilograms). It was treated by urgent operation. Histological examination showed carcinoma metastasis in an axillary node, the cancer focus, however, was not discovered. Over the period of one year, ductal infiltrative carcinoma developed in the other breast, with consequent generalization into lungs and bones.

Breast carcinoma in the second patient was topographically restricted to the phylloid tumor area. In the course of 19 years prior to mastectomy, six excisions had been performed following the findings of fibroadenoma and recurrent phylloid tumor of both bening and malignant structure.
