Klin Onkol 1993; 6(1): 10-12.

Summary: We studied the relation between the occurrence of distant metastases and the flow cytometric DNA content in the group of 55 patients treated by radiation for squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix at stages Ib - IIIb (FIGO). No distant metastases were found in tumours with clearly diploid DNA content, with the exception of bulky tumours at stage III. On the other hand tumours with non diploid DNA content showed more frequent distant metastases. The relation was statistically significant at stage II disease (p = 0.015) and in the subgroup created by the connection of stages I and II (p = 0.005). In the whole group the relation was of marginal statistical significance (p = 0.069) and at stage I disease the relation was not statistically significant (p = 0.221), but the trends are evident.
