Summary: As the ideal in cancer treatment, however waiting for discoverers for the present, is the selective destruction of tumor without destruction of surrounding normal tissues. The scientific programme of many oncological centres is concentrated on looking for the this method. One of new explored therapeutical method is photo-dynamic therapy (PDT) at this time. It is based on the application of a photosensitizing agent which has ability of accumulation in malignant tissues followed by local exposure with specific wavelength laser light. Energy of the laser light starts photochemical reaction and consequently are destroyed the malignant cells. This new therapeutic modality is generelly referred to as photodynamic therapy (PDT), but is also termed photochemotherapy or phototherapy.
