During 7 years (1987—1993) 3928 cases of cholecystectomy were evaluated in this study. In 63 cases (i.e. 1.60%) the diagnosis of carcinoma was found as result. The distribution of particular histological types corresponds approximately to literary data - adenocarcinoma including scirrhous (8140/3, 8211/3, 8141/3) - 41 cases (i.e. 65.08%), papillary and mucinous adenocarcinoma (8260/3, 8450/3, 8481/3) - 13 cases (i.e. 20.63%), squamous and adenosquamous carcinoma (8070/3, 8560/3) - 8 cases (i.e. 12.70%), other forms of carcinoma including secondary cancers (8010/3, /6) - 1 case (i.e. 1.59%).

It remains a fact of consequence that a suspicium of malignant tumour was presupposed by clinical physicians only in 35 cases from these 63 carcinomas (i.e. 55.56%).
