Abstract: The particular histological criteria for bladder cancer diagnosis are described: cellular typing, grading, the appearance of the tumour, the number of cellular layers, mitotic activity, the presence of giant cells, the type of local enlargement and the depth of invasion (staging). The role of the pathologist is to give information about all diagnostic criteria. The cooperation between the pathologist and the clinician-urologist is emphasized.
