Klin Onkol 1999; 12(2): 58-60.

b>Summary: Prognostic factors of 53 B lymphomas were eva!uated: Grade (Kiel), age, stage, apoptotic and maxima! mitotic indexes, cellularity and percent of CD45RO cells (T reactive); with the aid of the image ana!ysis system LUCIA-G. Percent of Bcl-2+ and Ki-67+ tumor cells, and overexpression of p53 and p 21 were eva!uated semiquantitatively. For apoptotic index, statistical ana!ysis revea!ed high positive correlation witha grade, mitotic index, Ki-67 and pS3 overexpression while a negative correlation was found with Bcl-2. No correlation appeared with p21, number of CD45RO cells, stage, disease-free interval and survival. Bcl-2 showed negative correlation with p53 overexpression. The results demonstrate dependence of apoptosis on Bcl-2. They confirm that with B lymphomas high proliferation (Ki-67 or mitoses) is associated with a high number of apoptoses. Complex regulation mechanisms are discussed. Further multivariate statistica! analysis is desirable to revea! mutual interrelationships, including prognosis. Apoptotic and mitotic indexes, Bcl-2 and p53 alterations are very promising factors for predicting results of specific anti-tumor therapy.
