Multimodal treatment of osteosarcomas - analysis of 10 years of clinical collection

Summary: In they years 1987- 1996, 20 patients with osteosracoma (OS) were treated at the department of Radiotherapy and Oncology University Teaching Hospital Košice. There were 14 males and 6 females with median age 28.7 years (17 - 46 years) 16 cases had OS on limbs. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy was administered to 11 patients, followed by surgery in 8 patients. Primary surgery was performed in 9 patients with adjuvant chemotherapy to 8 patients. 2 year survival of the whole group of patients was 85%, 5 years 50% and 7 years 28%. Median survival was 4,5 years, 6 patients survived long-term in the interval 12 - 71 months. The authors have summarised the literature of treatment results and prognostic factors in OS.
