Summary: Waldenstrom macroglobulinaemy is a rare subgroup of diffuse non-Hodgkin lymphomas (immunocytomas). This hyperviscosity syndrome. It is caused by malignant proliferation of intermediary mature B-lymphocytes and of lymphoplasmatic cells with apoptosis block. According to the long-term follow-up of 44 patients, a shorter survival median in comparison (55-59 months) with other lymphomas and higher incidence of cancer are stressed. The authors emphasize the correct differentia! diagnosis /malignant reactive IgM paraproteinaemies in cancer (benign idiopathic, autoimmune). In this group of patients, cancer was found in 15.9% (mostly lung, stomach and gut cancer)
