Summary:  A large number of genetic diseases significantly increases susceptibility to cancer in man. Although they are usually rare in population, altogether they represent an important part of oncological morbidity and mortality. The paper presents selected criteria that help to detect the individuals or families genetically predisposed to cancer. Genetic diseases with tumours as a symptom or complication are classified. Occurrence of tumours in atypical age, less typical site and opposite sex, bilateral incidence, multiple primary malignancies or multiple foci of tumours cells in single organs strongly suggest a possible genetic predisposition to cancer.
