Klin Onkol 1988; 1(5): 138-140.

Summary:  From 1984 the authors used at reoperation of malignant goiters with well differentiated cancer labeling for detection of residues after strumectomy. During reoperation the residues were localized by specially adjusted detector and were removed step by step. Maximal 131I accumulation after the reoperation did not exceed 6 per cent and in a majority of the operated patients dropped gradually to minimum what enabled initiation of successful treatment by an elimination dose of 131I. The advantage of such a treatment approach was shortening of the treatment and elimination of the possibilities of eventual voice damaging. Necessary dose of radioiodine to reach a remision was considerably decreased and ranged between 7100-18500 MBq (300-500 mCi 131I).
