Within 10 years (1987-1996), thirty children with hepatoblastoma were treated in the University Hospital Motol in Prague. In 12 children (40%) primary surgery was not feasible and preoperative chemotherapy was started. After preoperative chemotherapy, resection of tumor was performed in 6 children, 5 of them (45,5%) are alive in complete remission (CR). Med.duration fo CR was 6,15 yrs, one child died after 2 monts of progressive disease. There was no response or progressive disease in 6 children and all of these 6 children died. The authors emphasize the necessity of close cooperation between experienced specialists: radilogist, surgeon, pathologist, anesthesiologist in the process of diagnosis and treatment of children with hepatoblastoma.
