Summary: Background: Radiological methods do not distinguish active disease of malignant lymphoma from fibrous or necrotic tissue. This distinction has basic importance for consideration of remission quality and of eventual subsequent therapy.
Design and Subjects:  Our work summarises preliminary results of a retrospective study comparing scans of involved mediastinum performed by three distinct methods. Twenty - seven malignant lymphoma patients were examined.
Methods and Results:  From the beginning of 1997, we used three imaging methods together; computer thomography. Ga-67 scintigraphy and nuclear magnetic resonance. A total of 35 examinations was performed in 27 patients. Preliminary to start of therapy Ga-scans were positive at all 7 cases and magnetic resonance was negative in one of them. During therapy, examinations were performed in two patients and after the end of therapy in 26 patients - 13 times the NMR finding was consistent with Ga-scan, 6 times we observed positive NMR and negative Ga-scan and 7 times negative NMR and postive Ga-scan.
Conclusion:  The evaluation of the predictive quality of each imaging method will need a long-term follow-up of patients.
