Summary: 20% of malignant tumors in children are brain tumors. About 40 to 50 new cases are diagnosed annually in the Czech Republic. Embryonal tumors occur in 20 - 30%. Surgery is the first diagnostic and/or therapeutic aim. The operation has to be followed by the decision of an experienced multidisciplinary team consisting of neurosurgeons, radiation and medical oncologists. The position of radiation therapy and chemotherapy in the management of embryonal and germ cell tumors is discussed in this article.
