Summary: Pharmaeconomy is a new scientific discipline which develops from 60th. It was developed as a tool of evaluation of rational use of drugs. Pharmacoeconomy requires the team cooperation between physicians, pharmacists, economists and pharmacoepidemiologists as well. It is necessary well specify relevant cost and relevant indicators of effectiveness for any pharmacoeconomical study. The reason of development of pharmacoecomy was boosted by increasing of cost of pharmacotherapy, by increasing requirements regarding quality and safety of new drugs, by a development of new diagnostic methods and by an aging of population. The rational use of drugs can help to solve it. The pharmacoeconomy is not well developed in the Czech Republic. The role of pharmacoeconomy is not clear and it is a gap how to receive cost model of any technology in the population. It is shortage of databases giving population data and/or the availability of these databases is pure. There is not background of critical assessment of these studies and there is only low interest of ministry of heath and heath insurance companie to use these data. Recently principles of pharmacoeconomy are lectured at the Charles University in Praha, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové only.
