Probe into psychological situation of an oncological patient in surgery

Summary: Supporting psychological activities in oncological patients represent a part of multimodal oncological treatment. In our experience they appear absolutely necessary, their absence is unacceptable. The author builds on long time experience from a clinical department with high frequency of oncological patients with solid tumors. In form of an inquiry he addressed one hundred patients with colorectal and breast malignancies. This article evaluates various aspects of psychological support in certain stages of the malignant disease. Influence of inpatient department, operating room and specialized clinics are presented. The results of our inquiry show a lack in our efforts to generate anti-stress barriers. Several significant errors in verbal communication with the oncological patient are mentioned.
