Summary

Background: Prognosis of patients with metastatic gastric cancer is abysmal, usually just a few months. S-1 is a peroral fluoropyrimidine antitumor drug. It is a fi xed combination of three eff ective drugs – tegafur, gimeracil and oteracil potassium. Case: This is a case report of a 71-year-old man treated for local advanced and metastatic gastric carcinoma treated with combination of S-1 and cisplatin as a fi rst line of therapy. Treatment response reached partial remission and lasted for six months. Treatment was very well tolerated, with no grade 3 and 4 toxicity. After progression, the patient was treated with further lines of therapy. Conclusion: In the Czech Republic, experience with S-1 drug is very limited. Our case report showed a good treatment response and minimal toxicity of this treatment, in concordance with results of the study FLAGS.
