Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis as the presenting manifestation if lung cancer

Summary: The leptomeningeal carcinomatosis clinicaly appears approximately at 8%of patients with metastatic tumor. It is extremely rare as initial manifestation of cancer of any type. The most frequent tumors connected with this state are small cell lung cancer, breast cancer and malignant melanoma. In the case report we present a 69-year old woman with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis diagnosed by cytological examination of cerebrospinal fluid and verified by MRI of brain. The patient was treated by radiotherapy without any clinical benefit. Despite extensive examination it was not possible to detect the primary tumor intra vitam. Adenocarcinoma of lung with bronchioloalveolar features was revealed by autopsy. The course of disease and the prognosis is in concord with literary dates.
