Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis combined with mass spectrometry has become a fundamental technique for the study of protein expression. Proteomic analysis of plasma cells or plasmatic proteins can be done before and after treatment. Proteomics offers the possibility of identifi cation of disease-associated protein markers for prognostic evaluation and for the selection of targets for specific
drug therapy.
