Radio-frequency electric current is a multipurpose tool for treating many pathologies. With the developing technology it can be used by a surgeon as well as an interventional radiologist in their common goal of the management of liver tumours. Its potential is not fully exploited yet.

Aside of percutaneous or open radiofrequency ablation, the RF 4X sealer has arisen for liver resections both open and laparoscopic that has made the resection more feasible and safe in greater number surgical centres. To ensure the efřcacy of RF ablation the Hexablate device has come into existence that enables open radio-frequency ablation of a lesion while aspirating its liquid content with possibly viable tumour cells.

The VesCoag device has sprung up as a tool for closing the liver vessels, arteries as well as veins, lacking the risks of a foreign material escape during the conventional embolization.
