Introduction

Fluoroquinolones constitue a class of antibiotics effective against majority of bacterial pathogenic strains. Interestingly, some of newly synthesised fluoroquinolones show also specific anticancer activity. The study is also focused on role of different substituents as fluorine incorporation alters molecular recognition, which can improve therapeutic efficacy.

Materials/methods

Cytotoxic MTT assay against panel of normal human cell lines and cell lines derived from different cancer types , cell cycle analysis, DNA/RNA synthesis analysis.

Results and conclusions

Set of tested compounds displayed cytotoxic or anti-proliferative properties against tumor cell lines. We noticed better susceptibility of cancer cell lines over normal (nontumor) cell lines. The data suggest selectivity directed specifically against cancer cells and also provide information about the suitable fluorine substitutions, however more work is required to get complete insight into SAR.
